GENERAL METHODS OF REPATRIATION OF A DEAD BODY TO GHANA

Generally, if the deceased holds a valid Ghanaian Passport, no further documentation will be required from the High Commission for the repatriation of their mortal remains to Ghana.

However, if the deceased does not hold a valid Ghanaian passport, a letter from the Ghana High Commission will be required to serve as a travel document.

Required Documents

The following documents will be required for the issuance of the travel document:

  • Certified Copy of Death Certificate
  • Embalming Certificate
  • Free-from-infection Certificate
  • Copy of expired bio-data page of Ghanaian passport or any Ghanaian Identification document of the deceased
  • If the above cannot be provided, alternatively:
    • A valid Ghanaian ID of a relative or next of kin of the deceased
    • Signed letter to confirm the deceased’s identity and relationship
  • Two (2) passport-sized photographs
  • A postal order of £30 or card payment at the Mission
