CRIMINAL CHECK/ POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE APPLICATION

STEP 1: CRIMINAL CHECK/ POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE APPLICATION AT CID – GHANA

To obtain a Criminal Check/ Police Clearance Certificate, applicants must:

  1. Visit the CID Headquarters in Accra in person or appoint a Ghanaian resident to complete the forms on their behalf.
  2. Applicant must provide the following documents:
  • Photocopy of bio-data page of the passport
  • Particulars of parents
  • Particulars of schools attended/places worked
  • Three (3) passport size photographs
  • A fee of US$200***
STEP 2: ATTESTATION OF DOCUMENTS IN GHANA

Once the Criminal Check/ Police Clearance Certificate is issued, it must be authenticated in Ghana for use abroad. The process of authentication/attestation in Ghana is as follows:

  1. Notarization by Notary Public in Ghana
  2. Certification by Judicial Service of Ghana
  3. Attestation by the Legal and Treaties/Consular Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration
  4. Further attestation by Ghana High Commission UK
STEP 3: FURTHER ATTESTATION AT GHANA HIGH COMMISSION UK (Fee - £30.00)

Your documents require further attestation at the Ghana High Commission in London, and therefore must follow the steps below:

  1. Download and complete the Attestation form from our website – https://www.ghanahighcommissionuk.com/attestation.aspx
  2. Email Submission:
    Before submitting original documents by post or in person, email the following to consular@ghc-uk.org:
    • The completed application form
    • Copies of documents to be attested
    • A copy of the biodata page of your passport
  3. Submit Documents
    You may submit the underlisted documents in person or via post:
    • Original document to be attested
    • Proof of payment for service fee
    • A pre-paid self-addressed envelope for return via special delivery
  4. Fees and Mode of Payment
    • Fee: £30
    • Payment via postal order (Payable to: Ghana High Commission UK) or card payment at the High Commission
    • No cash payments allowed
    • A pre-paid self-addressed envelope is required for return delivery
  5. The Ghana High Commission accepts submissions Tuesdays to Thursdays, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Processing time: Up to 5 working days from receipt of the original documents.
