AUTHENTICATION / LEGALISATION OF GHANAIAN DOCUMENTS (FEE: £30.00)


STEP 1: ATTESTATION / LEGALISATION - GHANA

To authenticate public documents (such as Criminal Check Certificate, Marriage/Divorce documents, Birth/Death Certificates) issued by Ghanaian authorities for use abroad, the document must go through the following steps in Ghana:

  • Notarization by Notary Public in Ghana;
  • Certification by the Judicial Service of Ghana;
  • Attestation by the Legal and Treaties/Consular Bureau of Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration (Submission of authentication documents should be within three (3) months from date of issue); and
  • If the document is related to a Customary Marriage or Divorce, a verification letter must be obtained from the local registry in Ghana where the marriage was originally registered.

STEP 2: FURTHER ATTESTATION AT GHANA HIGH COMMISSION UK

Your documents require further attestation at the Ghana High Commission in London, and therefore will have to follow the steps below:

Email Submission:

Before submitting original documents either by post or in person, ensure that you email the following documents to consular@ghc-uk.org.

  • The completed application form
  • Copies of document to be attested
  • A copy of the biodata page of your passport

Submit Documents:

You may submit the underlisted documents in person or via post.

  • Original document to be attested
  • 2 Passport size photographs
  • Proof of payment or service fee
  • A pre-paid self-addressed envelope for the return of your documents via special delivery.

Fees and Mode of Payment:
  • The fee is £30.00
  • The amount could be paid via postal order (Payable to: Ghana High Commission UK) or card payment at the High Commission (No cash payments allowed).

The Ghana High Commission accepts submissions Tuesdays to Thursdays from 11:00AM to 1:00PM.

Processing time: Up to 5 working days from receipt of the original documents.
